COUNCIL DECISION JUST IN – AUCKLAND WILL HAVE A NEW THEATRE!. This exciting news is a massive boost to all of us involved in the project. The Council contribution, when combined with generous donations and pledges already made, means we’re halfway towards achieving our fundraising goal for the theatre building. NTi has worked closely with Auckland City for more than two and a half years to develop the business case for the new theatre. Huge thanks for achieving this outstanding result must go to the dedicated efforts of your Executive, to our wonderful champions, to inspired and visionary supporters from within the City itself, and to great backup from staff and the foundation development group. OTHER FUNDRAISING NEWS – WHO’S BEEN HELPING US GET THERE It’s not just the Council who are giving fantastic support for the new theatre; we have also received a number of early and significant contributions, and we acknowledge and thank them for their contribution to making the vision a reality. SkyCity Auckland Community Trust has recently given $35,000 for our public launch, a fabulous “make it happen” gesture of early support. Last newsletter, we reported ASB Trusts signal of its support with a $900,000 grant being both ongoing operational and capital pledge. The Sir John Logan Campbell Residuary Estate was the first private trust to come in behind us nearly a year ago with their grant of $100,000. Several other major gifts from trusts are currently in negotiation. Our thanks also goes to the private individuals who have already donated or quietly pledged their support, and helped us to enlarge our network – their support is greatly valued. And we must thank some great Auckland companies who have been working with us and giving generously of their time and expertise: Mandala’s Jude Hooson and Annie Dow and her team at Dow Design on brand strategy and design; Solution Architects for helping us build our information potential; Positive Solutions for the right advice; Dawsons for great food (and the right attitude); Platform Studio for the music, and James Wallace and the Wallace Arts Trust for our office space and administration support. WE REALLY NEED YOU, OUR MEMBERS – A CALL TO ARMS! With the fantastic support from Council and the donors mentioned above, we are already on the halfway mark for the capital funds we need. This is a huge achievement! Now we have to raise the remaining $6.4 million by 2007. We need to engage and excite people to earn their support for our great cause, and we can do so with your support. Next year we will focus our efforts on publicly launching the new theatre while simultaneously undertaking a public fundraising campaign. We would like to be able to call on you to give of your time, effort and skills to help us meet our fundraising target. This might be through working creatively or speaking publicly, but at the very least, we need you all to keep talking up the project. Tell everyone you know (and don’t know) about NTi. You are our advocates and your active support will keep Aucklanders engaged with the theatre, building support Margaret and the fundraising team are dedicated to your cause. If you are interested in helping, please get in touch with any of them: Margaret Belich (fundraising manager), Roger Hall, John Gow, Scott Ashton, Janet Clarke, Elaine Spearman, Diana Fenwick, Peter Salmon, Pip Cheshire, Pamela Canning, Fiona Mogridge and Justin Lewis. WE VALUE OUR MEMBERS You can renew your subscription or become a member online at http://www.nti.org.nz/join_us.php In other membership news, we would also like to congratulate Katie Wolfe, who was the winner of July’s Fatso DVD competition. REMINDER ABOUT AGM: A CELEBRATION OF PROGRESS Monday 28th November, 2005 Come and hear directly about Council support, our theatre launch plans and the next milestones. Take this opportunity to ask questions and give your perspective on plans to open the theatre in 2008 and what lies beyond. Being a birthday party, we will of course be celebrating our success afterwards with a few drinks and nibbles. UP CLOSE: STAFF MEMBER CATHERINE NOLA
Prior to returning to university, I spent several years in communications and events roles at Chapman Tripp and Ernst & Young as well as fitting in my OE where I became well acquainted with the half price ticket booth in Leicester Square. Working for the New Theatre Initiative started out as a cool part time job while studying, but has now evolved into something more. I can’t wait to see this grand vision turned into an Auckland reality and I feel very privileged to be involved in making it happen. Upcoming events (other than flying to Denmark to meet the boyfriend’s parents in what will be a high-maintenance showpiece entitled “the performance of my life”) include working on the production of The Orderly, on at the Herald next year, with new theatre company, The Rebel Alliance.
